Dr. Kirby graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL, with a Bachelor of Science in 1995. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, AL and then completed a four-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a three-year subspecialty fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where he held a dual Clinical Instructor appointment.
Dr. Kirby’s interests include the surgical management and chemotherapy of all gynecologic malignancies as well as advanced pelvic surgery, with a particular focus on minimally invasive surgery. He is one of the most experienced gynecologic surgeons in the southeast, having performed over 3000 robotic gynecologic surgeries and has lectured across the United States on robotic gynecologic surgery. While at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, he was the recipient of multiple teaching and research awards and was a recipient of the National Institute of Health’s Ruth L. Kirchstein National Research Service Award. Prior to moving to Huntsville, he was in private practice with West Coast Gynecologic Oncology in Tampa, FL. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Women’s Foundation for Cancer from 2007 until 2011 and served on the Baycare Institutional Review Board until 2010. He served on the 2013 Program Committee for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s Annual meeting. He was recruited to Huntsville in 2014 and with the help of Dr. Joseph Kelly helped develop the chemotherapy infusion component of Tennessee Valley Gynecologic Oncology. He was an integral member of the Huntsville Hospital implementation of the Cerner electronic medical records transition. He completed a Masters in Management of Healthcare with Honors at Vanderbilt University in 2017.He served on the Madison County Medical Society board of directors from 2017 until 2023. He was Chair of the Alabama Study Commission for Gynecologic Cancers in 2019. He serves as the Medical Director and practices Gynecologic Oncology with Tennessee Valley Gynecologic Oncology, a division of Huntsville Hospital system, and the only Gynecologic oncology practice in North Alabama/Southern Tennessee. Their practice sees and treats patients from across northern Alabama and southern Tennessee.
He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
His personal hobbies include a love for aviation, the occasional round of golf, playing ice hockey, and spending time with his wife and two children.
